7 Stormteam tracking Tropical Storm Chantal

Posted: Updated:

Tropical Storm Chantal continues moving on a rapid westward track in the Caribbean Sea and is now moving over the countries of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Movement is West at 29 mph with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. The minimum central pressure is relatively high for a tropical system at 29.85 in. (1011 mb).

Most computer models have the storm dissipating within the next day or two, and the latest projected path from the National Hurricane Center keeps potential US impacts along the east coast of Florida with the storm expected to either dissipate into a weak tropical wave or possibly maintain weak tropical depression status by tomorrow and Friday as it approaches Florida.

Regardless, the storm is expected to remain out of the Gulf of Mexico and does not pose any threat to Southwest Louisiana at this time.  If you have travel plans to the East Coast you should keep an eye on the forecast.

The 7Stormteam will keep you updated with the latest regarding Tropical Storm Chantal.
