SULPHUR, LA (KPLC) -

Sulphur's SPAR Water Park opened a new addition this past weekend. The Raging River and Parrot Island opened on Saturday.

The Raging River is 3 foot deep and 600 feet long and takes swimmers for a ride that's both fast and lazy.

"We have a cycle of 20 minutes of waves and 10 minutes of no waves. So families can have a fun time and still have some laziness if they want -- lounging in the area," explained Aungelle Burton, SPAR Recreation Supervisor.

The Raging River surrounds an island with more water elements for the kids.

The addition has been in the works since last September.

There is an extra cost to use the Raging River & Parrot Island:

For non-Sulphur residents: $6.50 (for basic park) and $9.00 (for full access to the entire park).

In District Sulphur residents with proof of valid identification: $4.50 (for basic park) and $6.00 (for the entire park).

The park provides inflatable tubes and life jackets.

Park hours are as follows:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday: 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Wednesday: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Sunday: 1 p.m. - 7 p.m.
