LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

A Lake Charles man is accused of carjacking.

According to a news release from the Lake Charles Police Department, 27-year-old John A. Vital is charged in the case.

Authorities said at approximately 10:28 a.m. Tuesday, an officer was dispatched to the 300 block of Pryce Street in reference to the incident.

The officer met with the reported victim, who said he was leaving a business when he was approached by a man, later identified by authorities as Vital, who asked him for a ride and help in retrieving some property.

Authorities said the victim allowed Vital into his vehicle. Vital then allegedly directed the man to drive to Front Street. Vital then allegedly used force to take the victim's key and vehicle.

A "BOLO," or "Be-On-The-Lookout," was then issued. Vital was later arrested by Jeff Davis authorities for possession of a stolen vehicle.

Vital was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on $15,000 bond.
