NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A Louisiana teenager and seven others on a boat that vanished off the coast of Honduras have been found.
The U.S. Coast Guard found the group Wednesday morning on Utila Island, about 65 miles from where they left shore. They had been stranded there since Sunday after the boat broke down.
Jackie Capehart, the mother of 16-year-old Amber Burkett, of Bridge City, tells The Times-Picayune (http://bit.ly/1cRKsBW) that her daughter was dehydrated after the ordeal but otherwise uninjured.
The Coast Guard airlifted all eight people to a hospital in Honduras. From there, Burkett was able to speak with her mother, about two hours after the U.S. Embassy called with news of the rescue.
Burkett was vacationing in Honduras, where she has relatives.
