CPSO: Suspect made $86K in fraudulent withdrawals on elderly woman’s card

CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

A Lake Charles woman is accused of stealing $86,000 from an elderly woman's bank account through fraudulent withdrawals.

According to a news release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, 43-year-old Lauren L. Moffett  is charged with nine counts of unauthorized use of an access card over $1,500. She was released on $20,000 bond.

Authorities said on March 27, they began an investigation into an allegation that Moffett made unauthorized cash withdrawals using the woman's ATM card.

Authorities said over 390 fraudulent transactions were allegedly made between January 2011 and January 2013.

Moffett was arrested Monday.
