Allen Sheriff: Oberlin man confesses to stabbing & slashing wife's throat

Good Afternoon,

Lee Peck here in the KPLC 7 Newsroom with a look at what we are working on today.

Let's just say there's no shortage of news this Saturday.

An Oberlin man is in jail after authorities say he confessed to killing his wife. Allen Parish Sheriff Doug Hebert said Joseph Vercher turned himself into the Sheriff's Office this morning around 1:30 a.m. and told deputies he stabbed his wife multiple times and slashed her throat.

Also Lake Charles Police arrest three Houston, Texas men for theft. Police said they were caught operating a so-called "pigeon drop" scam. We'll have details.

Plus, we're there for a river roundup on the Ouiska Chitto. KPLC's Olivia Vidal shows you what type of illegal activity was floating down the river.

And comics, anime, costumes – Oh my! – The fifth annual BayouCon is underway in Lake Charles. You'll see green aliens and comic book heroes come to life.

And can it get any hotter? Meteorologist Cedric Haynes has your complete forecast and a look at the week ahead.

See you guys tonight at six for these stories and more. Until then, we're always on at kplctv.com.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST: Some freezing temperatures tonight and another cool day on Wednesday

    Tuesday, December 12 2017 7:10 PM EST2017-12-13 00:10:10 GMT
Nice day, despite the clouds on WednesdayNice day, despite the clouds on Wednesday

Tonight, skies will be clear and we will have little to no chance for rain. Tonight will be much cooler. We had a cold front come through early this morning and that decreased the dew point and cleared the sky of any clouds. This will allow temperatures to fall. South of I-10 will be in the mid to upper 30s, while north of I-10 will be in the freezing temperatures. As we go through this week, the weather will be nothing less than perfect!
