Officials locate missing autistic child

UPDATE: Authorities have located the missing child and he has been returned home safely. Officials say he was located on Interstate 20, approximately one mile from his residence around 9:56PM by a family member who was assisting in the search.

Released by the Harrison County Sheriff's Department:

Harrison County deputies, Bossier City FD K-9 bloodhounds and Shreveport Louisiana search and rescue K-9 search teams are searching for an autistic special needs child that has wandered from his residence at 405 Roosevelt Taylor Rd. in Harrison County. Hunter Ballew, W/M/05-25-1998 (15 years old) was last seen by his mother at approximately 11:30 AM on June 23, 2013.

Hunter is believed to have wandered into a heavily wooded area that surrounds the residence. Due to the close proximity to I-20 and Roosevelt Taylor Rd., it is possible he may have become disoriented in the wooded area or may have wandered to I-20 where someone may have seen him on the service road.

Hunter is described as W/M, 100 lbs., 5'9", hazel eyes, shaved head and has a pronounced protruding chest and his ears protrude, as well. He also walks on his tip-toes and has the mental capacity of an 8-10 year old. Hunter was last seen wearing a sleeveless undershirt, blue jeans, and tennis shoes.

Hunter is not on medication and it is believed he has not eaten or had anything to drink since he was last seen.

If anyone has any information, or has seen a w/m fitting the description, they are urged to call Harrison County Sheriff's Office at 903-923-4000, or their local Police, Fire or Sheriff's Office.
