LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

A huge overnight fire destroyed a vacant, two-story house east of Lake Charles on Monday.

The home, on Hwy. 397 near Hwy. 14, was fully engulfed in flames when the first fire crews arrived.

Chief David Guidry with Ward 2, Fire District 1, said firefighters got the call around 2:06 a.m. Several area fire agencies responded.

Within hours, the blaze had been contained, but the house appeared to be a total loss.

No injuries were reported.

Guidry said the cause of the fire is unknown and the Louisiana Fire Marshal's Office has been called in to assist.
