Former Chatham Co. Chairman Pete Liakakis on Paula Deen scandal

Statement from former Chatham County Chairman Pete Liakakis on the Paula Deen controversy:

I was one of her customers. When she started making sandwiches, her two sons would deliver them. They would com to my business.

I have known her for a number or years and I know she has helped a number of people. She has brought a lot of recognition to Savannah.

Somebody else will pick her up because you can see she now has food items that have her name on it. There are a lot of other things that she is still on, other national shows.

I think she is a good person. She is an individual that helps a lot of people.

I think a lot of people that come to Savannah have heard about it. Some come because of her but you have got a lot of other people that come in because they have heard so much about Savannah. Last year we had over 12 million tourists and they spent over $2 billion.

She will continue to make contributions and hopefully whatever has occurred that might have caused this will be straightened out.

For the rest of today, it will be very nice to get outside. There are not many clouds, and therefore there is a lot of sunshine! Temperatures are a bit cooler outside compared to the last few days. Plus, the humidity is lower, so it feels better outside! The temperatures will be cooling down quickly after sunset. Tonight, there will not be any clouds and therefore no rain. There should be cool temperatures overnight. Lows will be back in the 50s.
