Second Annual Lake Charles Film Festival planned

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

The second annual Lake Charles Film Festival will take place Oct. 4 and 5 at Historic Central School.

Organizers are currently seeking film entries for the festival.

The film must have been completed after Jan. 1, 2011, and should be under 151 minutes.

The festival has several submission categories to choose from. The list includes: Feature Film, Documentary, Short  Film, Foreign Film, Home Grown, Student, Music Video and Animation.

The first place winner in each category will be entered into the "Best of Show-Feature" and "Best of Show-Short" categories.

The festival will also include actor and filmmaker Jason Bostwick. He will lead an independent film production and acting workshop.

The deadline for submitting an entry is Sept. 1. Films from SOWELA and McNeese State students may be submitted for free.

    A large police presence was on Third Street, near La. 14, Thursday morning after receiving a call of a possible kidnapping, said Lt. Richard Harrell, with the Lake Charles Police Department. The person who was the target of the alleged kidnapping is an adult an is in police care, Harrell said. Harrell said Lake Charles police and members of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office searched for the suspect, but were unable to locate the person. Copyright 2018 KPLC. All rights reserved.

    At least 1,124 residents are without power from Pujol Road all the way to Moeling Street near La. 171 according to the Entergy Map.  According to Entergy, a serviceman is working to determine the cause of the outage. Power will be restored as soon as possible.  Entergy estimates power will be restored by 2:30 p.m. Traffic lights may be affected. Copyright 2018 KPLC. All rights reserved.
