VINTON, LA (KPLC) -

Authorities on Friday afternoon responded to a traffic accident involving three fatalities on La. 3063 in Vinton.

The accident involved two vehicles, an 18-wheeler and a small SUV.

Authorities said the three people who died in the crash were traveling in the SUV.

The vehicle reportedly ran a stop sign and was broadsided by a tractor-trailer.

Sgt. James Anderson with Louisiana State Police said skid marks show that the trucker attempted to stop, but his big rig pushed the SUV nearly 380-feet into a ditch on the other side of the highway.

The truck driver was not injured.

Authorities at the scene had said four people died in the wreck, then they later revised that number.

State Police say the driver of the 2013 Ford Escape, 53-year-old Diana Gonzales, was killed, along with passengers 44-year-old Rosa Barron-Hinojosa and 79-year-old Lidia Trevino Gonzalez, all from Palacios, Texas.
