CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

A spill team responded to a crude oil leak on the Calcasieu Channel on Thursday.

Louisiana State Police spokesman Sgt. James Anderson said around 400 gallons of the oil leaked from a barge that broke loose at Calcasieu Refining near West Tank Farm Road around 3:30 p.m.

Coast Guard officials said an estimated two to five barrels were spilled.

Officials said the majority of the spill has been contained and the remainder appears to be underneath the dock.  A vacuum truck is reportedly en route to collect the remaining oil.

"As the federal on-scene coordinator, the Coast Guard will ensure that the spill is cleaned up as quickly as possible, seek to ascertain the cause of the spill, and work to prevent future occurrences," Coast Guard officials said in a statement.

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality also responded.
