CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

Testimony in 14th Judicial District Court has started in the trial of Jon Dickerson, accused in the 2009 murder of Darrell Schaub.

Calcasieu Parish Prosecutor David Kimball says Schaub's blood and DNA were on Dickerson's shoes and clothing.

A former friend testified how Dickereson showed up at her house, covered in blood and asked to take a shower. She said "no."

Also, Dickerson's former girlfriend told jurors about shoes she gave him, shoes that are now evidence because prosecutors say Schaub's blood and DNA are on them.

A former DeQuincy police officer testified Dickerson had Schaub's credit cards when he was arrested for something else.

The officers said that was about a week before Schaub's body was found under a mattress at the old Parkway Motel near DeQuincy. Schaub's throat had been cut.

The jury also heard from a former store clerk who claims Dickerson bought six pints of whiskey with a credit card in someone else's name.

One of Schaub's daughters told jurors her dad lived in Florida, but was a pipe fitter who traveled around the country for work.

Defense attorney King Alexander urged jurors to reserve judgment until all the evidence unfolds. Alexander says not everything the prosecution says is exactly true.

The trial is scheduled to start up again on Friday morning. Witnesses are expected to include the lead detective and the coroner.
