LAFAYETTE PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

Lafayette authorities are investigating a sexual assault and robbery which reportedly happened early Monday.

Two suspects are sought in the case.

Authorities said at around 1 a.m. Monday, police responded to an apartment complex in the 100 block of Belle Fountaine Drive.

Authorities said the male and female victims were standing between two buildings when two black males reportedly approached them with handguns.

Authorities said the suspects demanded the victims' cellphones and car keys. The suspects then sexually assaulted the female victim, authorities said.

A third victim reportedly walked upon the suspects in the act and was ordered to the ground. The suspects stole the third victim's cell phone and wallet, authorities said.

The suspects were last seen running in the parking lot.

Authorities said both suspects were medium build and one suspect had short dreads.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the suspects to call Lafayette Police or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.

After years of political gridlock, the United States and China reached a trade agreement for exporting rice. Once the deal is finalized, it could provide a boost to farmers across the U.S., including those here in Louisiana.

From rice farming alone, Louisiana earns $712 million in revenue in exports, and across the U.S., $5.6 Billion, not including the value added from mills.
