Starks drowning victim identified

The man involved in Sunday morning's drowning in the Sabine River near Starks has been identified as 37-year-old James Mason of DeQuincy, according the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office. 

CPSO received calls of a possible drowning around 7:45 Sunday morning.

When they arrived to the scene, deputies learned that Mason was fishing off the bank of the river near Old Pump Plant Road holding his one year old baby.  It is believed he possible had a seizure which caused him and the baby to fall into the river. 

According to CPSO spokeswoman, Kim Myers, a neighbor of the camp owner near where Mason was fishing was able to rescue the baby, but was unable to find Mason. 

Mason's body was located by the CPSO Marine Division and Dive Team around 11:30 am.
