LAFAYETTE PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

Two Lake Charles residents are accused of intentionally setting fire to a car to collect insurance money.

Ashley John and Darrell Vital are charged with arson with intent to defraud, according to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office.

According to authorities, a vehicle was set on fire in an abandoned parking lot in November after Vital drove it to Lafayette. The vehicle was then reported stolen by John.

The Lake Charles Police Department assisted in the investigation.
