Whites Creek town hall addresses rise in burglaries

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Home burglaries have become such a problem in one Middle Tennessee community that local businesses are now reaching into their own cash registers to help catch the crooks.

Metro Councilman Walter Hunt hosted a town hall meeting Thursday at the Fontanel Mansion, where business leaders, community members and police met to discuss what they can do to prevent further crime in Whites Creek.

Hunt said he wants the crooks to know this type of activity is not welcome in his district.

"We're trying to be proactive, be consistent so we can be aware all the time and they'll know we're still looking all year long. We're going to have rewards out all year long. We're going to have cameras out all year long. And if I can get those helicopters up flying around, we'll do that all year long," Hunt said.

Hunt said he is bringing together $5,000 that will go toward the Crime Stoppers fund and reward tipsters for information that leads to arrests.

Southerly winds bring afternoon showersSoutherly winds bring afternoon showers

For the rest of today, we will continue to see a few pop up showers, especially in the afternoon. Not everyone will see rain today. It will be a hot and humid day with highs reaching the lower 90s and heat indices in the mid to upper 90s. By the late afternoon into the early evening, we will start to cool down and showers will start to weaken and become much more isolated. Through tonight, we will keep the rain chances low as all showers come to an end.
