LC council to vote on Abraham's Tent donation

Posted: Updated:

Lake Charles Mayor Randy Roach has proposed a resolution to grant Abraham's Tent $50,000 over the next two years.

Lake Charles City Councilman Rodney Geyen supports Roach's resolution to help Abraham's Tent build a new facility.

"I'm a firm believer in that we that are able, are supposed to take care of those who are standing in the need of," said Geyen.

The resolution, presented at Tuesday's City Council agenda meeting, would grant the local feeding shelter with $50,000 as they continue in their growth efforts.

"We have a special budget and that's built within our budget at the City of Lake Charles and we will be happy to donate that amount of money," Geyen said. "It's a matching type fund with other entities that would be contributing to the cause as well."

Abraham's Tent provides meals to the homeless and less fortunate everyday. Even under the sweltering heat of a June day, it's clear a new building is key to their continued operations.

"They can't do it by themselves. They need the help of the city council, police jurors or even churches and private donations," said Geyen.

"I think we'll be positive in passing it without any trouble at all," he added.

The city council will vote on the resolution at next week's city council meeting.
