Whether it's celebrating our country's freedom or running to help wounded warriors, the members of Glad Tidings Church have made veterans the focus of their attention over the years.

"They have really made the ultimate sacrifice," said Pastor Steve Perry. "Many of them did not return from battle. The ones that did so often are humble and reticent to say much about their service. But we feel like it's time to really honor our veterans and express our appreciation."

Earlier this year, church members organized a Biggest Loser run to benefit the Wounded Warriors Association. Hundreds took part.

"We had a 5k run and we focused on raising funds for Wounded Warriors. Their wives were there, many of them from the group and it was an awesome morning. We were able to present quite a bit of money to the group for special needs."

On Saturday, June 29, Glad Tidings is inviting all veterans to a special breakfast in honor of them.

"At that veterans breakfast, we're going to cast a vision and really launch what we're going to call "beyond the Call," a veterans ministry. We want to really reach out to our area of the lake region and help with families of vets that need some help and make a difference."

That breakfast will take place at Glad Tidings Church, 3400 Texas St. in Lake Charles.
