FORT MORGAN, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say two men drowned in dangerous rip currents on the Alabama coast, and searchers are looking for a third person who hasn't been seen since going under.
Baldwin County Coroner Stanley Vinson says 25-year-old Matthew Hattaway of Bossier, La., was pronounced dead about 3 p.m. Sunday. A relative spotted him floating in the surf.
Vinson says 51-year-old John Hogue of Overland Park, Kan., died on the beach a few hours later. He had been swimming and was pulled from the surf unconscious.
Vinson says a third person disappeared in the water and hadn't been found Monday.
Authorities say all three people were swimming on Fort Morgan Peninsula near Gulf Shores when they got into trouble.
A city spokesman says the surf wasn't bad, but dangerous rip currents were a problem.
