NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Metro police want to take unsafe weapons off your hands, and they're willing to make a trade.

The department is teaming up with the Davidson County Sheriff's Office and area clergy to host another Gift Cards for Guns event Saturday at St. Luke Primitive Baptist Church.

Davidson County residents are urged to turn in their unused, unwanted or inoperable guns in exchange for Mapco gift cards, Titans hats and Predators tickets - no questions asked.

The event runs Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the church, located at 135 Lewis St.

Since December 2011, the program has received 337 firearms, and people involved say the exchange program really does make a difference.

"Last year, a young man - after turning in his gun - called me. He said, 'I feel good.' I asked, 'Why do you feel good?' He said, 'Because, for me, to turn in my gun was the first step of correction,'" said the Rev. Frank Stevenson, of St. Luke Primitive Baptist Church.

Participants can also drop off expired or unwanted medications at the event, rather than throwing them into the trash or flushing pills down a toilet.
