Dog show underway at Lake Charles Civic Center

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

Tails wagged at the Lake Charles Civic Center on Thursday.

Dogs from all over the nation entered the Calcasieu and Acadiana Kennel Clubs' Dog Show.

The K-9s will take over the Lake Charles Civic Center through Sunday.

During the event, several different competitions will take place like the Best Puppy Competition.

And the judges will compare breeds for the Junior Showmanship Award.

"We have a relatively small show today. We only have about 875 dogs. This is really nationwide. A lot of people particularly like a judge. The judges are going to compare each one of the dogs to the standard of that breach so it's really just a good family outing," said Sallie Shepherd, show chairman.

"You know what … I've always been very, very competitive in different sports when I was younger and I just love the dogs. I opened up a boarding kennel years ago and I just love playing with them, training them and grooming them. This is a place to go and be competitive," said Kayley Kovar, a professional dog handler.
