Lake Charles man facing sex charges

CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

A Lake Charles man is accused of indecent behavior with a juvenile and sexual battery following an investigation by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.

Authorities, in a news release, said 22-year-old Phillip J. Bergeron is accused of inappropriately touching a 15-year-old girl and making sexually inappropriate requests from her.

The arrest came Wednesday, authorities said.

The incidents are alleged to have happened over the past year.

Bergeron is charged with two counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile and two counts of sexual battery. He was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on $350,000 bond.

Authorities said the investigation continues and more charges are possible.

    Police have confirmed a man died earlier this week inside the Sulphur City Jail. According to Mel Estess, spokesman for the Sulphur Police Department, the man was arrested Tuesday, put in a cell alone, and died. Police are not giving any word on how he died or releasing his identity. The coroner's report is not complete according to Estess. KPLC will update this story as more information becomes available.
