Temporary fix to save CPSB jobs, questions over future cuts

Good Wednesday morning to you!  Britney Glaser here in the KPLC 7Newsroom with a look at what's ahead on today's Sunrise:

*A temporary fix to prevent teacher cuts in Calcasieu Parish: the school board sold a piece of property to Sasol.  It will protect teacher jobs this year, but there are questions over the next few years to come.

*Lawmakers have some very strong comments on how the military deals with sexual assaults.  Find out about the conversations in front of the Senate Armed Services Committee after the Department of Defense reported an estimated 26,000 cases of unwanted sexual contact ranging from groping to rape in 2012.

*With hurricane season underway, now is the time for homeowners to look at their insurance policies.  We'll have tips on how to understand the jargon and details about the named storm deductible.

    Calcasieu's taxable sales from July to November are more than $1.256 billion higher than the same period from last year, according to numbers from the Calcasieu Parish School Board. Sales were up 49 percent with increases in food, apparel, merchandise, furniture, building materials, miscellaneous services, manufacturing, utilities, auto, gaming and restaurants.     Organizers with the USS Orleck Naval Museum are hosting "Christmas Cuts for Veterans" this year.  Local veterans can get a free haircut aboard the USS Orleck from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 18.
