JEFF DAVIS PARISH, LA (KPLC) - A Welsh man died in a Sunday crash in Jeff Davis Parish, according to a news release from Louisiana State Police, Troop D.

Authorities said the crash happened around 9 p.m. Sunday on La. 1311 about one and a half miles south of U.S. 90.

It involved one vehicle driven by 45-year-old Daniel E. Hicks Jr.

Troopers said the preliminary investigation revealed that Hicks was traveling north on La. 1131 when the 2008 Ford truck he was driving failed to negotiate a curve to the right and exited the roadway.

Troopers said the vehicle then struck a utility pole and overturned several times.

Hicks, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

According to troopers, impairment on the part of Hicks is suspected to be a factor in the crash.

A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.
