Coushatta election runoff set Saturday - KPLC 7 News, Lake Charles, Louisiana

Lovelin Poncho elected to Coushatta tribal chairman seat

ALLEN PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

A runoff election was held for the Coushatta Tribal Chairman on Saturday.

Lovelin Poncho was elected over Michelle "Missy" Litteral.

Current tribal chairman, Kevin Sickey, did not seek re-election.

Poncho received 214 votes to Litteral's 104.

Poncho will officially take office on Wednesday, along with Jonathan Cernek and Jerold Poncho, who both won election to the Tribal Council.

The Coushatta Tribal Election Ordinance states that the elected chairman and council members serve four-year terms.

Inaugural ceremonies for the elected officials will be held Wednesday in the Coushatta Multi-purpose Complex.

Their four-year terms will officially begin on that day and end on the day of the next inauguration for their positions which would be Wednesday, June 7, 2017.

Only officially registered tribal members were able to vote in the runoff.
