LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The National Hurricane Museum and Science Center is one step closer to becoming a reality.
The project itself will cost up to $70 million and the museum's board of directors have been working with many different businesses and public organizations to help fund it.
On Tuesday, the Port of Lake Charles came to an agreement to give the museum $3 million over the next three years to help fund the project.
Museum Board member, Mark McMurray, said the panel has received a lot of support from the community to help get the project up and running.
"So far, we've gotten support from the city, the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Southwest Louisiana and we're knocking on a lot of doors to make this happen," McMurray said.
