OBERLIN, La. (AP) - An Oakdale man has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2008 death of his sister.

Johnny McGraw pleaded no contest to a second-degree murder charge in the death of 62-year-old Brenda McGraw of Seattle, Wash.

McGraw was accused of beating and shooting his sister during an argument at their mother's Oakdale residence in late August 2008. Brenda McGraw died nearly two weeks later.

Johnny McGraw also was accused of firing several shots at his niece, Julie Anne Price, as she ran from the residence after seeing her mother shot. He pleaded no contest in that case as well and was sentenced to 30 years. Price was not injured.
