NSU's Nedorostova named SLC Athlete of Year

Posted: Updated:

Three of Northwestern State's women's tennis players, headlined by Student-Athlete of the Year Andrea Nedorostova, have been named to the Southland Conference All-Academic Women's Tennis First Team, the conference office announced Wednesday.

A three-time SLC all-academic selection, Nedorostova helped the Lady Demons to their second NCAA Tournament appearance in program history (2010) and also cemented her spot in the NSU record books.

The Brno, Czech Republic native went 14-7 at the No. 4 singles spot and 17-3 in No. 1 doubles with teammate Tatiana Larina this season.

She became the winningest doubles player in NSU history after amassing 71 career doubles victories and just 10 losses. The senior also moved up to No. 4 on NSU's career-singles wins ledger with 60 wins.

Nedorostova clinched the Lady Demons' SLC Tournament Championship win and NCAA automatic bid when she defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Sandra Burges 6-2, 6-2 in the title match of the SLC Tournament.

For her efforts on the court, Nedorostova was named to the doubles first team all-conference.

Nedorostova has also been a standout student, graduating with a 3.92 GPA in communication studies. Her academic achievements were recognized as she was named the Outstanding Senior in Mass Communications at this spring's Honor's Convocation.

She is the second Lady Demon to claim the SLC Student-Athlete of the Year award, joining Annelle Zerwick who earned it in 2005.

Tatiana Larina and Polina Konop also earned first team all-academic honors following appearances on the first team all-conference squad.

Larina finished the season 16-5 at the No. 2 singles spot and 17-3 at the No. 1 doubles position. The sophomore is majoring in Hospitality, Management and Tourism and has a cumulative GPA of 3.952.

Konop led the Lady Demons in singles action with a 16-5 record at the No. 1 spot and also compiled a No. 2 doubles record of 16-5 with teammate Natalya Krutova. The junior has maintained a GPA of 3.167 in psychology.
