NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Louisiana may ease some of the restrictions on the use of federal aid money in the state Road Home program for homeowners who sought to rebuild, repair or sell property damaged by hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005.
The state's Office of Community Development said Wednesday its proposals include one to aid people who failed to complete required renovations because of contractor fraud, vandalism or other factors beyond their control. Another proposal would address homeowners who violated current guidelines by using home elevation money for other repairs.
There is also a proposal for a loan program for those who have not been able to complete repairs.
The state says it will gather public comment on the proposals through May 29, then will submit them to the federal government for approval.
