Cleveland City Council members sound off about missing women

Could Cleveland Police have done more searching for two missing teens and a 20-year old?

Some on Cleveland's City Council are sounding off.

City Councilman Kevin Conwell believes Cleveland Police should have tried harder to find Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight when they first went missing.

He says Cleveland Police could have done a better job following up.

"The system we have right now it's not working. Community policing is the best way go," said Conwell.

While, Conwell stops shy of blaming police his colleague Mike Polenske says they did a good job following up on leads.

"We have to look at the bigger picture so the issue of an audit and we get a picture of many people are still missing," said Mike Polenske.

Both men were addressed the issue on council floor Monday night.

For the Oakdale Police Department one of their constant battles isn't necessarily with criminals, but instead with their phones. Their phone lines were down for most of the weekend, and just got back up yesterday, but this isn't the first time they've dealt with this.  The phones are ringing at the Oakdale Police Department now, but this past weekend that wasn’t the case.  “Friday evening our phones went down,” said police chief, Joseph Lockett. ...More >>
