LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

According to Longview police, 38-year-old Candace Jackson, who was involved in Thursday's SWAT standoff has been shot and the incident is over. Authorities said that Jackson died at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview shortly after being transported there by ambulance.

Police reported that there was an armed person inside a home in the 2000 block of Eden Drive. The situation began as a welfare call around 1:18 on Thursday afternoon.

Residents who live in that area were not allowed in for hours as this standoff continued.

"I was at the church and I saw the emergency vehicles, SWAT team vehicles; I saw them go by. I got concerned because being a pastor, you have connections all over the area," said Nathan Rogers, a pastor at Longview Missionary Church.

It turns out, these emergency vehicles were headed to Rogers' neighborhood. His family was hiding inside their home.

"Being a husband and a father, I was wanting to get home to them," Rogers explained.

However, he was unable to reach his family because police closed off all entrances to the neighborhood. He and some of his neighbors had to wait down the street, communicating to loved ones in the neighborhood by phone.

"I talked to one of the officers and he's the one who gave me the instructions to pass along to them to get to the interior of the house and stay away from the windows," Rogers said. It's the advice he gave to his family.

Meanwhile, authorities used gas to get Jackson out of the home. Police said she came out of the home and opened fire at police, so they shot her and took her by ambulance to the hospital where she died shortly after.

"My dad and I were in the house counting how many shots after another 13, 14 and then finally the ambulance came through the and we saw her on the stretcher get pulled into the ambulance and they rushed her off," said neighbor, Brittany Crowe.

Kilgore College confirmed Jackson graduated from their nursing program with high honors in December 2010.

Shortly after graduating, Jackson took a job at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview until she resigned in February.

"This is obviously a tragic situation and, of course, our thoughts and prayers are with the families involved during this difficult time," the hospital said in a statement.

Longview police say the Texas Rangers will continue this investigation.
