Four Tech softball players named all conference

Posted: Updated:

Louisiana Tech pitcher/shortstop Anna Cross was named the Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and joined senior second baseman Amanda Krueger on the all-league first team as postseason awards were handed out Wednesday morning prior to the start of the conference tournament.

Senior pitcher/utility Melanie Goff and junior designated player Erin Kipp were both included on the league's second team as voted on by the WAC coaches. The voting was done off the stats generated by players in WAC-only games.

Cross became the first Lady Techster to ever garner Freshman of the Year honors in the WAC following a rookie season that saw her succeed at both the plate and in the circle for LA Tech. The Cross Roads, Texas native batted .367 with five doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI in WAC-only games while scoring 13 runs and registering four steals.

In the circle, Cross recorded a 4-5 record with a 3.54 earned run average, including handing New Mexico State its only home loss in league play. She also recorded only one error in 62 attempts in the field for a .984 fielding percentage.

Cross ranked 9th in batting average, 3rd in slugging percentage, 7th in doubles, 5th in home runs, 8th in stolen bases, and 6th in wins in league play.

Krueger earned her first team all-conference honors after batting .361 with five doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI while scoring 14 runs and stealing four bases. The Warren, Oregon native ranked 2nd in the league by drawing 16 walks. She ranked 10th in batting average, 7th in runs scored, 5th in slugging percentage, 6th in on-base percentage, 7th in doubles, 5th in home runs, 7th in total bases and 8th in stolen bases.

Goff earned all-conference honors for the second straight season after being named first team all-WAC as a junior. The San Diego native batted .313 with 12 RBI, six runs scored and three doubles. In the circle, she was 3-4 with a 2.62 earned run average along with one save. She ranked 7th in RBI with 12.

Kipp also earned second team all-WAC accolades after batting .328 with five doubles, three home runs and seven RBI while scoring 13 runs. The Bullard, Texas native – who was named to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District team last week – ranked 7th in slugging percentage (.569), 7th in doubles, fifth in home runs and 10th in total bases in WAC-only games.

The four members on the all-WAC team tied for the second most in program history surpassed by only the 2009 Lady Techster team which earned five all-conference honorees.

San Jose State senior Amanda Pridmore earned the WAC Pitcher of the Year award while New Mexico State outfielder Staci Rodriguez garnered the WAC Player of the Year. San Jose State's Pete Turner was named the WAC Coach of the Year after leading the Spartans to the regular season championship.
