Calcasieu Parish Library programming for May 12-18

ADULTS

Introduction to Microsoft Word 2010: 1 p.m., Monday, May 13. Adults will enjoy this 2-hour class that will cover the basics of Microsoft Word 2010.  Registration is required.

Friends of the Library Book Sale: 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 14. The Friends of the Library-Calcasieu will have books for sale until noon.

Free Divorce Advice Clinic: Noon, Wednesday, May 15. The Southwest Louisiana Bar Foundation will be holding a Divorce Clinic for anyone who is interested in getting advice on filing for a divorce.  Attorneys will be available with packets for self-filing and to answer questions concerning divorce laws. The program is free and available on a first come first served basis. 

Introduction to the Internet: 1 p.m., Thursday, May 16. This two hour class will cover Internet basics, including searching and safety, with hands on practice. Attendees should have basic keyboard and mouse skills to attend. Registration is required.

Friends of the Library Book Sale: 4 p.m., Thursday, May 16. The Friends of the Library-Calcasieu will have books for sale until 6 p.m.

American Dream Starts @ Your Library: 5 p.m., Thursday, May 16. The Calcasieu Parish Public Library and the SWLA Literacy Council will offer a series of three sessions to help residents in the community who have English as their second language. The sessions will include everyday conversation, communicating in an emergency situation, and meeting your neighbors.  Registration is required.

Epps Memorial Library Book Discussion Group: 6 p.m., Thursday, May 16. Adults will meet to discuss a book that was selected by the group the preceding month.

Coffee and History:  9:30 a.m., Monday. Patrons in the community will share photos and history of the Vinton area.

Animanga Club: 5 p.m., Thursday, May 16. Students in grades 6-12 who love Anime movies and Manga comics gather twice a month to share opinions, create calendars, plan the annual convention, and learn more about these art forms. Interested young adults can sign up at the YA Desk at Central Library and pick up a form. Registration is required to participate.

Epps TAB Meeting:  3 p.m., Friday, May 17. The Epps Memorial TAB Group will meet once a month to talk about what kinds of programming teens would like to see at the library. Snacks will be provided.   

Epps Anime Club: 4 p.m., Friday, May 17. All ages will learn about Japan and Japanese culture.  Attendees will read Manga comics, watch Anime films, and learn Japanese style drawing techniques.

Teen Advisory Board: 3:45 p.m., Tuesday, May 14. The Sulphur TAB group will meet to discuss programming for our library and to prepare for community events that we will participate in.

Wii Wednesday: 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 15. Teens will enjoy an afternoon of playing Wii games.

Discovery Dome: 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 18. Discover roaring dinosaurs, soaring spaceships, monster trucks, and more at the library when the Houston Museum of Natural Science bring their portable, full dome theater that is a state of the art visual experience for all ages. Every thirty minutes will feature a new and exciting show, so stop by for one or stick around for all six shows!
