LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

A Lake Charles man is accused of child pornography possession, according to a news release from Louisiana State Police, Troop D.

Troopers said last month, detectives with the State Police Bureau of Investigations initiated an Operation Child Watch investigation that led to a search warrant for 27-year-old Jeffrey Smith.

Troopers conducted a search warrant at Smith's residence on Thursday. Troopers said computers were seized and Smith was arrested for pornography involving juveniles.

"During questioning, Smith admitted to downloading sexually explicit images of children. Smith was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center. The investigation is continuing," the release states.

Troopers said if convicted, Smith faces up to a $50,000 fine and from five to 20 years in prison without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
