Boston Strong

When tragedy strikes, artists help by doing what they do best - grabbing their guitars and using the power of their art to bring healing.

Aerosmith, James Taylor and the band Boston are just a few of the local acts gone national who have signed on to play Boston Strong: An Evening of Support and Celebration.

The show will raise money for the One Fund Boston, a charity to support those impacted by the April 15 Boston Marathon bombings.

Other artists include Massachusetts act J. Geils Band, New Kids on the Block, who are from Boston, and a few non-locals like Jimmy Buffett and Jason Aldean.

The show is May 30 at the TD Garden in Boston.

Lauren Hill releases new music, then gets sentenced to jail

Lauren Hill released a new track, just days before she was sentenced to three months in jail for failing to pay taxes.

Hill released Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix) on Friday, writing on her Tumblr, "Here is a link to a piece that I was 'required' to release immediately, by virtue of the impending legal deadline."

On Monday, she was sentenced to three months in jail, plus three months probation for failing to pay around $1 million in taxes.

In late April, Hill confirmed she had signed a record deal and would be releasing new music.

There's no word on when the new album will be released.

Tickets for activism

Good deeds can add up to hot tickets to see your favorite artists.

Global Citizen, a learning and action tool designed to help people get involved in the fight against extreme poverty, is now teaming up with the music industry to give away concert tickets.

Global Citizen members can watch videos, make calls, sign petitions and do other activities in order to gain points, which can be used toward getting free concert tickets.

Participating artists include Beyonce, One Direction, Depeche Mode, Bruno Mars, Kings of Leon, Ke$ha, Brandi Carlile, Dierks Bentley, Animal Collective and more. Music festivals like Sasquatch!, Voodoo Music Arts Experience and Lollapalooza are also participating.

For more information on the project as well as a full list of participating artists and concert locations, visit the Global Citizen website.

A hippie with soul

R&B artist Allen Stone has been compared to such artists as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Donny Hathaway, but the humble singer-songwriter refers to himself simply as "a hippie with soul."

His wide-range vocals create refreshing, feel-good music that lifts your spirits and makes you want to tap your feet.

Stone was asked to perform on Conan O'Brien after he was seen on YouTube performing the song Unaware in his mother's living room.

Since then, he hit Jimmy Kimmel Live, Last Call with Carson Daly and Live from Daryl's House ... all before being signed to a record company.

For a limited time, a few of Stone's songs are available for download on Noisetrade.

He will also be performing at Bonnaroo in June. His song Celebrate Tonight off of his self-titled album is featured in Noisetrade's Bonnaroo Sampler.
