There are election items in Allen, Calcasieu and Cameron parishes on Saturday.

Election day voting hours are from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information on election day voting, click HERE.

The following is a look at the ballot:

 

ALLEN PARISH

Parishwide Police Jury, Proposition 1: Disabled Veterans Homestead Exemption

Shall an additional homestead exemption be authorized in the Parish of Allen, State of Louisiana, for certain disabled veterans and surviving spouses in accordance with and subject to the provisions of Article VII, Section 21(K) of the Louisiana Constitution, provided that this additional homestead exemption shall extend and apply to property in Allen Parish only after approval by a majority of the registered voters of Allen Parish voting on this proposition?


Parishwide Police Jury, Proposition 2: .70 percent sales tax to pay for solid waste service

Shall the Parish of Allen, State of Louisiana (the "Parish"), under the provisions of Article VI, Section 29 of the Constitution of the State of Louisiana of 1974, and other constitutional and statutory authority, be authorized to continue the levy of a tax of seventy hundredths of one percent (.70%) (the "Tax") upon the sale at retail, the use, the lease or rental, the consumption, and storage for use or consumption, of tangible personal property and on sales of services within the District (an estimated $1,600,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year), for a period of fifteen (15) years beginning December 1, 2014, with the proceeds of the Tax (after paying the costs of collecting the Tax), to be dedicated first to pay the cost of the collection and disposal of solid waste for the entire Parish, including the acquisition of land for container sites, and secondly, any remaining Tax revenues shall be divided and distributed annually between the Parish and the municipalities therein on a per capita basis according to the last federal dicennial census and used by the governing authorities thereof for any lawful purpose?

 

Parishwide proposition for 7.5 mills to provide a school resource officer program in Allen Parish

Shall the Parish of Allen, State of Louisiana (the "Parish"), through the Allen Parish School Board, the governing authority thereof for school purposes, levy a special tax of seven and fifty hundredths (7.50) mills on all property subject to taxation in the Parish (an estimated $630,000 expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year), for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2013 and ending with the year 2022, for the purpose of providing a school resource officer program for the public schools in the Parish?


Fire Protection District 1, 6.30 mills for 10 years for services and maintenance

Shall Fire Protection District No. 1 of the Parish of Allen, State of Louisiana (the "District"), continue to levy a special tax of six and thirty hundredths (6.30) mills on all the property subject to taxation within the District (an estimated $18,650 expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year), for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2013 and ending with the year 2022, for the purpose of constructing, improving, maintaining and operating the District's fire protection facilities, including the acquisition of fire trucks and paying the cost of obtaining water for fire protection purposes, and any charges for fire hydrant rentals and services, said millage to represent a one and three hundredths mills (1.03) increase over the 5.27 mills tax authorized to be levied through the year 2012 pursuant to an election held on April 6, 2002?

CAMERON PARISH

Parishwide Police Jury Proposition 1, a property tax renewal for 2.64 mills to maintain courthouse and jail

Shall the Parish of Cameron, be authorized to levy a tax of two and sixty-four hundredths (2.64) mills on the dollar of assessed valuation on all property subject to taxation in said Parish (an estimated $739,631.01 is reasonably expected to be collected from the levy of this tax per annum), for a period of ten (10) years commencing with the year 2014, for the purpose of maintaining and operating the Cameron Parish Courthouse and Jail?

 

Parishwide Police Jury Proposition 2, a property tax renewal for 6.61 mills for road and bridge maintenance

Shall the Parish of Cameron, be authorized to levy a tax of six and sixty-one hundredths (6.61) mills on the dollar of assessed valuation on all property subject to taxation in said Parish (an estimated $1,851,879.16 is reasonably expected to be collected from the levy of this tax per annum), for a period of ten (10) years, commencing with the year 2014, for the purpose of improving, maintaining, construction and keeping in repair roads and bridges in said Parish?

 

Parishwide Proposition 3, a property tax renewal for 1.32 mills for Cameron Parish Health Center

Shall the Parish of Cameron, be authorized to levy a tax of one and thirty-two hundredths (1.32) mills on the dollar of assessed valuation on all property subject to taxation in said Parish (an estimated $369,815.50 is reasonably expected to be collected from the levy of this tax per annum), for a period of ten (10) years, commencing with the year 2014, for the purpose of supporting the Health Center in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, title to which shall be in the Public?

 

School Board proposition 1, a property tax continuation for 8.5 mills to maintain schools

Shall the Parish School Board of the Parish of Cameron, State of Louisiana, be authorized to continue to levy a special tax of eight and fifty one-hundredths (8.50) mills on all property subject to taxation in Cameron Parish, for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2013 and ending with the year 2022, with collections from the levy of the tax estimated to be $2,262,318 for one entire year, for the purpose of maintaining and operating the public schools in the Parish?

 

School Board proposition 2, a property tax continuation for 6 mills to improve and maintain schools.

Shall the Parish School Board of the Parish of Cameron, State of Louisiana, be authorized to continue to levy a special tax of six (6.00) mills on all property subject to taxation in Cameron Parish, for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2013 and ending with the year 2022, with collections from the levy of the tax estimated to be $1,596,930 for one entire year, for the purpose of improving and maintaining school houses and the public school system in the Parish?

    Police are urging everyone to not leave firearms unattended in their vehicles. The Lake Charles Police Department stated that between Jan. 1, 2018 and Feb. 16, 2018 there have been a total of 27 vehicle burglaries where a firearm has been stolen. That means 27 firearms are in the hands of a thief that could possibly be resold or used to commit a violent crime. The police officers must then come into contact with these violent offenders and result in a possible armed confrontatio...
