Communities from all around the globe participated in the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, including local community and religious leaders in Cameron and Sulphur. For a slideshow of picture from local observances, click HERE.

In Cameron, the event was led by the Cameron Chapter of the NAACP, the Cameron Parish Sheriff's Office, the Clerk of Court and School Board members.

Leaders joined residents and area churches for an hour of discussion, reflection and prayer for the nation.

The Rev. Dennis Hubbard of Port Arthur, Texas, was the keynote speaker. He said considering recent events that have rocked the country, the National Day of Prayer came at the perfect time.

"We're going through and we're going to make it through because we have a mighty God, a might God that we serve … a God that's going to allow us to make it through," Hubbard said.

Louise Cole, president of the Cameron NAACP, said Cameron Parish is blessed.

"This place has been blown off the map three or four times, but God still has us here so I think we ought to serve the Lord with gladness and goodness," she said.

There was also prayer in Sulphur.

The city's event was held during the noon hour at Sulphur's Heritage Square on Ruth Street.

Members of the Sulphur Ministerial Alliance prayed for the nation, armed forces, schools and the community.

Mayor Chris Duncan welcomed a crowd of about 200.

The Sulphur High School Choir sang "God Bless America" and other songs.

There was also a flag presentation by a color guard made up of members of the Sulphur Police and Fire Departments.

Also, in Vinton, an observance was held at Vinton Town Hall. There was a pledge and a performance by the youth choir from Emmanuel Baptist Church. Evangelist Ronald Ruffin read scripture and there was a silent moment of prayer. About 110 people attended, according to city officials.

Other observances were also held throughout the area. If you have photos of observances, you can send them to news@kplctv.com.
