ADULTS

Computers for Beginners: 1 p.m., Monday, May 6. This two-hour class is for adults with little to no computer experience. Participants will cover basics such as keyboard and mouse skills and how to navigate a computer desktop. Registration is required.

Tech Tuesdays: 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 7. Knowledgeable library staff team up with Best Buy to assist you in using your new electronic device and the latest apps that are available for them.  Examples include eBook readers, smart phones, tablet computers, wireless access, and more.  Call 721-7118 for more information.

Friends of the Library Book Sale:  10 a.m., Tuesday, May 7. The Friends of the Library-Calcasieu will have books for sale until 12:00 p.m.

Twitter 101: 1:30 p.m., Thursday, May 9. Adults interested in using Twitter will enjoy this two-hour class that will explain the basics of this social media platform. Participants must Twitter account set up prior to attending.  Registration is required.

American Dream Starts @ Your Library: 5 p.m., Thursday, May 9. The Calcasieu Parish Public Library and the SWLA Literacy Council will offer a series of three sessions to help residents in the community who have English as their second language.  The sessions will include everyday conversation, communicating in an emergency situation, and meeting your neighbors.  Registration is required.

Free Legal Advice: 4:30 p.m., Monday, May 6. In partnership with the Southwest Louisiana Bar Foundation, the Calcasieu Parish Public Library will host Free Legal Advice sessions. Local attorneys will be on hand to speak with attendees on a one-to-one basis. First come, first served.

Bath Soaps and Fizzies: 6 p.m., Thursday, May 9. Adults will celebrate Mother's Day by making their own decorative bath soap and fizzies. Registration is required.

Coffee and History: 9:30 a.m., Monday, May 6: Patrons in the community will share photos and articles of interest about the Vinton area.

Whimsical Key Chains: 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 8. Using fabric scraps, ribbon, buttons, and felt, adults will create a unique key chain. Registration is required.

Mother's Day Crafts:  3:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 7. Teens will have a large assortment of materials to make cards and small gifts for mom. Snack will be provided. Registration is required.

Teen Writers Group:  5 p.m., Monday, May 6.  Teens who love writing will hear from published authors and professors. Registration is required. 

Gamer's Club:  5 p.m., Thursday, May 9. Teens who love games can join and learn how to create and play all manners of games. Interested young adults can sign up at the YA Desk at Central Library and pick up a form. Registration is required to participate.

Teen Book Club:  1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 11. Teens that love reading and would like to discover great new titles or share books that they have uncovered will enjoy this group of 6th-12th grade students. The best presentations will be rewarded with a chosen free book! Registration is required to participate.

Teen Advisory Board:  3 p.m., Saturday, May 11. Teens will get to tell the Library what they want! We will have fun planning teen programming and representing the Library at civic events, all while learning leadership and team building. Registration is required.

Fun With Fideaux: 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 7. The SWLA Humane Society will bring trained dogs to the library where children will pick out a book, pick a dog, and read aloud to the dog. It is a non-threatening way for children, who might be uncomfortable reading, to relax and learn to enjoy reading.
