LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

Lake Charles residents are invited to roll up their sleeves and do a little extra spring cleaning.

The city will be judged next week for the statewide "Cleanest City" contest.

Sponsored by the Lake Charles Garden Club and the Diggers and Weeders Garden Club, the city will compete against Alexandria and Monroe.

Officials said Lake Charles won last year by having just three pieces of trash fewer than the competition.

Judges will be in Lake Charles on Tuesday, May 7 at 8:30 a.m.

The judging starts at the Southwest Louisiana Convention Center and Visitors Bureau. The tour will continue from there.
