LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

A Lake Charles teen is accused of stealing over $100,000 worth of jewelry and goods from a guest at a local hotel, according to a news release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said the items were inside a diaper bag that was beside the hotel's pool. Also reportedly in the bag was $14,000 in cash. The incident reportedly happened March 21.

"Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the victim who advised a diaper bag containing over $100,000 worth of jewelry, several electronic items and $14,000 cash had been stolen from the pool area of the hotel. He and his wife, with their children, were spending the weekend at the hotel and didn't realize the diaper bag was missing until they got to their home in Texas," the release states.

Accused in the case is 17-year-old Christopher P. Duplechin. He was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center with theft over $1,500.

"When questioned by detectives, Duplechin confirmed he stole the items. During a search of Duplechin's home, the stolen jewelry and some of the cash was recovered from his bedroom," the release states.

Judge David Ritchie set his bond at $100,000.
