CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

A Lake Charles woman is accused of physically abusing a 10-year-old, according to a news release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said on April 26, deputies were dispatched to an elementary school after receiving a complaint from school officials.

Authorities said 31-year-old Syreeta B. Joubert is accused of abusing a child who attends the school.

"Deputies learned Joubert struck the victim several times with a studded belt, causing numerous lacerations on the victim's buttocks," the release states. "When questioned by detectives, Joubert confirmed the allegations."

Authorities said Joubert was booked into the  Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with one count of cruelty to a juvenile.

She was released on a $1,500 bond set by Judge Robert Wyatt.
