SUGAR TAXES-VO

MOST AMERICANS ARE OPPOSED TO AN ADDITIONAL SALES TAX ON SUGAR-FILLED FOODS AND DRINKS, LIKE SODA OR CANDY.

AN ONLINE SURVEY WAS CONDUCTED LAST MONTH, AND ASKED MORE THAN TWO THOUSAND ADULTS ABOUT THEIR OPINION ON A SEPARATE SALES TAX FOR CANDY AND SODAS CONTAINING SUGAR OR CORN SYRUP.

NEARLY SIXTY PERCENT SAID THEY WERE OPPOSED TO SUCH MEASURES, WHILE JUST OVER TWENTY PERCENT SAID THEY WOULD SUPPORT THEM.

HALF SAID SUGAR TAXES WOULD NOT HELP REDUCE OBESITY, AND FORTY PERCENT DID NOT THINK THESE TAXES WOULD BE GOOD FOR THE HEALTH OF PUBLIC.
