BPPJ considers purchase of church building

DERIDDER, LA (KPLC) - The First Baptist Church of DeRidder is creating a lot of interest with the Beauregard Parish Police Jury.

The panel met Thursday for a special meeting to mull the possibility of purchasing the church building located near the parish courthouse.

The church has a new facility on U.S. 171 and the old property will be available.

The main concern, among police jurors, is not the cost of purchasing the building, but the cost of renovations to bring the building up to code.

Police jurors must first assess any and all repairs with the state fire marshal before they can begin to proceed with any renovations and the initial purchase of the building.

Police jurors plan to use the old church to temporarily relocate the two judges, clerk of court and all their staff in order to make repairs to the parish courthouse.
