The 27th class of the Albany Sports Hall of Fame includes three area basketball legends and the man who has helped make Albany a hot spot for track and field in the state of Georgia.
Former Deerfield basketball star Julee Bailey, Albany High School boys' basketball coach and former Westover star Archie Chatmon, former Dougherty High standout and current Albany State head men's basketball coach Chris Cameron joined Dougherty County Schools Athletic Director Johnny Seabrooks in the 2013 class at Monday night's banquet.
Many of the inductees said this honor was nothing they ever dreamed of.
"I had a good career athletically as a high schooler, decent in college, and a pretty good coaching career," says Chatmon. "But when you start talking about the Hall of Famer, that just never crossed my mind as something that was possible."
But Hall of Fame President Bobby Stanford says there's no doubt these four belong.
"Their accomplishments speak for themselves," Stanford says. "They've all had great careers in athletics, and they also contribute to the community. Of course, Archie, Johnny, and Chris here in Albany, and Julee in Dublin, GA."
The Hall of Fame also presented scholarships to area high school students, as well as naming the area high school athletes of the year.
