Tyler Police: Missing boy found safe

A 7-year-old Tyler boy reported missing Monday night has been found safe, according to police.

Around 8:40 p.m., Benito Moore went missing while playing with friends in his neighborhood. His parents told police they believed he was walking home from Kenilworth Avenue to North Hawthorne Avenue after playing basketball.

When he didn't arrive home by dark, his family notified the police department. 

Benito's aunt, Theresa Moore, says he sometimes plays longer than the others. They didn't think twice about his being late until Benito's grandmother went over to the house to look for him and no one could find him.

Tyler Police, Smith County Sheriff's deputies, family and friends went door to door for several hours. Walking with flashlights, groups called Benito's name.

Sergeant Adam Tarrant with Tyler Police tells us that Benito was coming home after playing with friends and got frightened and hid in some nearby bushes when he saw officers in the area. After police had searched the Moore home twice, Benito went inside undetected and fell asleep in a wardrobe closet. Sgt. Tarrant says that's where he was for most of the search Monday night.

    A pipeline has ruptured following a dump truck accident on U.S. 90 in Vinton. The accident happened just inside the western border of the Vinton city limits, Police Chief Ricky Fox said. Fox said the dump truck ran off the road and over a high-pressure nitrogen gas pipeline, knocking off a valve. Crews are working to repair the break but water will remain out of service indefinitely until project completion.
