Three weekends of Checkpoints: State Police make several DWI arrests

Good Afternoon,

Lee Peck in the KPLC 7 Newsroom with a look at what we are working on for 7 News at Six.

For three weeks in a row State Police Troop D is reporting DWI arrests following an overnight checkpoint. We'll have the results from last night's detail.

Plus, the latest from the site of that massive explosion in West, Texas as some residents are being allowed to return home for the first time since the accident.

Also how a program at the Foreman Reynaud Community Center hopes to change the statistics for African American children that can't swim. KPLC's Olivia Vidal has that story.

And hundreds lined up at Tuten Park for the City of Lake Charles' Free Tree Giveaway. We'll show you all the sights and sounds of the annual Arbor Day Event.

It was also not a bad day for the event. The weather may look like spring, but the winter chill is overstaying its welcome. Meteorologist Cedric Haynes tells us how long the cooler weather will stick around.

We'll see you tonight at six for these stories and much more. Until then we're always on at kplctv.com.

In this week's edition of "Christian's Cajun Adventures," KPLC's Christian Piekos spent time on a commercial crabbing vessel. Christian was assisted by Roger Kelly, a veteran crabber.

Kelly, who also goes by the nickname "Snoopy," has been catching crab since a very young age. It seems like rudimentary work, but Kelly couldn't be happier with his job.
