CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) - Judge Kent Savoie has denied a change of venue in the case of Robert Wilkins after mock jury selection showed potential jurors had not heard about the case.
Wilkins faces trial for murder in the 2004 stabbing death of Tony Fontenot.
The trial is set for July 15.
The judge has also ordered the parties not to talk to media between now and then. That's so there are no new reasons to consider a change of venue before trial.
Wilkins has pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity.
Experts who examined him find that he is mentally competent to proceed with trial. They have not yet decided if he was sane when he allegedly killed Fontenot.
