LSUS' Cooksey receives weekly honor

Brandon Cooksey of LSU Shreveport was named Monday as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Baseball Hitter of the Week in a release by the organization.

Cooksey was named the LSWA Hitter of the Week after leading the Pilots to three wins during the week, highlighted by an 11-10 victory over No. 16-ranked William Carey University.

The Lake Mary, Fla., native went 10-for-16 (.625) at the plate during the week with a home run, five RBI, four stolen bases and seven runs scored. Cooksey posted consecutive 2-for-3 performances at the plate against WCU with a solo home run, a pair of stolen bases and a combined five runs scored.

In the Pilots' Red River Athletic Conference series against Wiley College, Cooksey went 6-for-10 at the plate while helping LSUS claim the three-game series. Cooksey capped off the weekend going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI, a double and two triples in a 10-3 victory.
