CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

A Sulphur man is accused of cruelty to a juvenile, according to a news release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said on April 5, deputies were dispatched to a local elementary school after receiving a complaint from school officials regarding 36-year-old Jason N. Nazworth allegedly physical abusing a 5-year-old, a student at the school.

Nazworth is accused of striking the child with a wooden stick, causing bruising. He is also accused of physically abusing a 7-year-old.

"When questioned by detectives, Nazworth confirmed the allegations," authorities said in the release.

Nazworth was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on two counts of cruelty to a juvenile and released on a $4,000 bond set by Judge Wilford Carter.

CPSO Detective Cinnamon Salvador is the lead investigator on the case.
